Description
Current Lot An exceptional set of four cast late George III table candlesticks, William Elliott, London 1819-20 the serpentine bases with stepped edge, bold c-scroll base with floral detail, a lion's head, sea monster and an eagle, the circular stems with leaf clasping the main section modelled as an eagle on a rocky outcrop, floral and c-scroll clasped sconces, the removable drip trays with cast eagle perched on the underside, shell, floral and C-scrolls to the top (4) 34.2cm high, 18.5cm diameter base, 320oz Provenance: Magnificent Silver from the Collection of the Late Hilmar Reksten, Part I, Christie's 22nd May, 1991, lot 14 The Collection of Mrs. Fay Plohn, Sotheby's, 16th July 1970, lot 128 Note: Another maker who used this pattern was William Pitts, see Sotheby's, London 23rd May 1991, lot 243 for another pair.
