Description
Current Lot The Royal Presentation silver-gilt tray to H.R.H. Ernest Augustus, Duke of Cumberland Digby Scott and Benjamin Smith, London 1805 of oval form, raised on four substantial mask, scroll and crouching satyr supports, the central finely engraved armorial within a scrolling foliate border, the rim boldly cast with vine leaves, grapes, tendrils and fruit, ribbon tied berried laurel rim, the handles formed as rytons flanking a panther mask 75cm across handles, 55cm high, 250.5oz Note: There have been a number of similar trays appearing in the market place recently: Sotheby's London, 1st June 2006, lot 51, The tray to Admiral Lord Keith (299,200); Sotheby's London, 12th November 1991, lot 52 (part) The Montefiore Tray, Sotheby's New York, April 16th 1996, lot 259 and again Christie's New York, 20th October 1999, lot 201, part of the Simone and Alan Hartman collection
