Description
Current Lot A fine George II silver-gilt set of two caddies and a sugar box Paul de Lamerie, circa 1730 of upright rectangular form, incurved corners, the caddies with sliding covers and fold down handles, the sides with engraved contemporary arms and crest, the rounded corners and edges with engraved strapwork with shells, and fronds, the covers of the caddies engraved with B and G to differentiate between black and green tea, the sugar box with engraved female and male heads (3) 12cm high, 48oz, Note: The arms are for Spencer impaling Trevor below an Earl's coronet for Charles Spencer after his succession as 5th Earl of Sunderland and his wife Elizabeth. This coronet became out-dated in 1733 when Lord Sutherland succeeded as 3rd Duke of Marlborough Provenance: Sotheby's New York, April 22nd 1998, lot 40
