The set is done in the Lady Mary pattern which was first produced in 1917. The set is very complete and includes a large number of serving pieces. Each piece is monogrammed with a T in Gothic script. The knives, hollow handle butter spreader, pastry server, cake or pie server, and carving pieces have sterling silver handles and stainless steel blades or tines. All of the other pieces are of course solid sterling silver. The box is certainly not original, but the set fits in it, and it does a good job of protecting the silver. The smaller carving knife, the carving fork, and the hollow handle spreader are marked with Stainless on the blades or the tines and with the maker’s mark for Towle and Sterling Handle on the handles. All the other pieces are hallmarked on the reverse with the maker’s mark for Towle, Sterling, 925-1000, and Pat. 1917. This set has a lot of very large and nice serving pieces. Many sets just have a few small serving pieces, not this set. There is just about everything you will ever need. This is also a great set for buffets since you can just put out so many different pieces for people to take, right next to the appropriate foods. The set is in great overall condition. One dinner knife has a large dent on the side of the handle, one luncheon knife has a smaller dent on the side of the handle, and several of the knives have dings on the ends of the handles. The larger of the two carving knives has some wear on the blade, but this is minor. Otherwise, the condition is excellent. There are no other dents, no splits, no breaks, and no repairs. The total weight of the solid sterling silver pieces is 8575.4 grams or 300.5 ounces. This does not include the weight of the knives, the hollow handle butter spreader, the cake server, the pastry server, and the carving pieces because of the stainless steel blades. Therefore we are not including 42 pieces of this set in the weight. This is a massive set and has a huge amount of silver in it. This set comes with an optional, free, bonus box as seen in the photographs. The box is not original to the set, but it is effective in protecting the set against tarnishing.
