Description
Customers Before you buy please, See NEW Shipping and other Information Note At Bottom Of Page Large Working Black Powder Coated Brass Micrometer Nautical Captain's 8 in. Sextant with 2 Telescopes, and hardwood box. Everyone Likes This Sextant! This item is a NEW very large powder coated brass (black) intricate nautical 8 in sextant reproduction with sturdy box and second telescope. This is one of the favorites. The sextant itself is quite detailed, Micrometer adjustment with six glass filter lenses (two each of blue, yellow, and green), , and large swing arm, twin reflective mirrors, comes with 2 telescopes and hardwood box. Notice 2 Telescopes, BOTH telescopes ( normal and inverted ) are included and the box has a place for the second telescope to store. The arm features a magnifying lens and a highly accurate micrometer adjuster. The micrometer is an incredibly intricate device that allows you to advance the swing arm by a single degree with each full turn of the micrometer wheel. The micrometer wheel is marked with 60 markings, representing the 60 arc-minutes in an arc-degree. Turn this micrometer wheel while sighting the main arc-degree through the magnifying lens and you can make incredibly small adjustments. The full 120 degree arc is inset with white metal to contrast with the brass, and features individual degree demarcations. Imagine sailing ship captains in the early 1900s using an instrument like this. If you like no-glare from your sextant, this black powder coated is a nice way to do it. This heavy brass sextant also features a solid construction and weighs over 4 pounds. Crafted in the style of a century ago, this sextant has a nicely polished and finished wood handle, as well as black brass stand legs for upright easy display. All in all, would make a great gift for the sextant enthusiast and novice alike. Certainly a fine item for the sextant, brass, nautical, surveying, engineering instrument, militaria, or other collection - very nice looking on display. This detailed item measures approximately 9 inches long, 9 inches wide, and 4 1/2 inches high, and weighs almost 4 pounds. Box size is 10 1/4 x 10 1/4 x 6in. Sext5066 To see some sextant basics and helpful information about reproductions Information you need before you buy. Sextant Sizes are measured by pivot to arc length, or by length of arc degrees. Many sextants are sold by the physical size of the sextant, which causes you to actually get one size smaller sextant than you thought you were buying, we list both measurements, sextant size and physical measurements. Sextants are measured from pivot of arm to dial or by the size of the arc. The reason this is very important is if you see a size listed as 6in for example and no other measurements, most likely it is a 5in sextant with a 6in measurement across the frame. This makes you think you are buying a 6in when in fact you are only getting a 5in. We list both measurements. Reproductions Reproductions are handmade copies of an antique, never perfect, but for those that like the look of years gone buy and are unable to get a genuine antique. If we received sone that were perfect we would refuse them as we would know they were not handmade reproductions, and we sell only reproduction sextants. If you want perfection spend the big bucks and get what you want, these are for the average use and as you can see we have over 99.7% happy customers. If the word Working is in the title, this means the maker of the sextant says it is ready for final adjustments and calibration. We do not sell sextants as calibrated as We believe everyone should be able to calibrate their sextant, or what are they going to do if it gets dropped, bumped, or other misuse, or if it just needs to be checked for accuracy.
