Description
AN IMPORTANT CELTIC BOAR SCULPTURE FROM THE 1800?s RARE Up for this auction here's an Originating from the CELTIC region of Northwest Europe, we are bringing you a very rare life-size sculpture of the totemic/zoomorphic animal representing the Hallstadt culture (circa 1100 BC). The sculpture we have for you has a dual function in the Celtic beliefs. It both represents the principles of hospitality and feasting, as well as the skills of hunting and war. The Boar also is centerpiece in many Irish and Welsh mythologies featuring the hermit, Marban, or the hero, Diarmaid. Revered as one of the most aggressive creatures in northern Europe, the boar became revered by the Celts. Representing strength of a warrior, the sculpted hackles or ‘fur’ adorns this beautiful work of art. Found from an estate sale in the historic old town Alexandria, VA; this sculpture has been one of the finest that I have ever found and belongs in a museum. The item itself is absolutely breath taking. Untouched, this piece has gone through time for a special bidder. Made from wood, the condition overall will be described in honesty. On the belly of the boar, there is a crack, which you can see in the photo’s. Also, all the legs of the item have pegs attached to the top for easy removal and restructure (in case of use for mount or base). Overall, the sculpture has the usual nooks and crannies due its age. Be sure to look through all of our photo’s, as you will see, the rustic nature of this item only adds to the beauty of this piece of historic art. The measurements are approximately as follows: Length (nose to tail) = 43 inches Length (front hoof to back hoof) = 36 inches Height (from head to front hoof) = 28 inches Height (from head to back hoof) = 27 inches Width (belly) = 13 inches Weight (approx.) = 40 lbs. This is your unique opportunity to own a piece of historic art, and should be regarded as a masterpiece of Celtic and European history. Shipping only to the lower 48 United States, and we will only charge actual shipping costs. If you are within 200 miles, we can deliver with charges, and there is free pickup. If you have any questions for this item, please feel free to email me. Also, if you have 10 feedbacks or less, please contact me to verify your account.
