This violin is pre-1881 when the Mckinley Tariff Act started to require that products be marked with their country of origin. This violin is in perfect condition - there are no cracks, separation or anything of the sort that would affect the structure of the instrument. The top of the violin is of very close grained spruce, the back, ribs, neck and scroll are all of beautifully flamed maple. The sound is very bright on the upper registers, darker on the lower registers. The lower registers are also slightly constrained. This violin plays very easily and I would say that it is very responsive. Listen to the sound clip below to get an idea of the tone this instrument produces. Please listen with decent speakers. The instrument comes with an Aubert Mirecourt bridge however the bridge was not shaped properly. The top of the bridge does not follow the proper arc and thus, the angles between the strings are incorrect. The violin comes with an antique hard case (not wood) for protection during shipping process. The violin is set up with "red label" strings - not the best but we did it for the purpose of deomonstration. Shipping insurance is strongly recommended.
