Description
SquareTrade © AP6.0 CHOKWE - 4 CHAIRS & TABLE - ROYAL SET - ANGOLA / ZAMBIA Description: A most impressive work of art from the Chokwe peoples of Angola, Dem. Rep of Congo and Zambia. This set is from the western part of Zambia, west of the Zambezi River, and shows a strong Mbunda influence. The chairs vary in height, size and width slightly. Each was meant for a particular person in a family or village hierarchy. The table with its Sachihongo face (male ancestor) carved into it measures 22 x 26 x 26 inches. All the chairs depict the face of Pwevo the archetype of womanhood and symbol of female beauty and fertility. The top of the backs each has a carving of a royal chief with two guards on either side of his throne. The legs of the chairs and tables depict women pounding corn with pestle and mortar. The seats of the chairs are of animal hide stretched on the wooden frame. Each piece of furniture is made from one piece of wood. Chair one measures 49 x 22 x 19 inches. Chair two measures 50 x 27 x 19 inches. Chair three measures 50 x 22 x 17 inches. Chair four measures 50 x 19 x 19 inches. All pieces are in excellent condition with minor scrapes or age cracks. The table has an age crack with signs of tribal repair.     Origin:  Chokwe    Materials:  wood, studs, leather    Condition:  Excellent, age crack, tribal repair   Payment:Payment is due within 7 days of auction closing.
